Chiropractic Care at Whole Health Veterinary
How Can My Pet Benefit From Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic care offers a natural, drug-free adjunct to your
pet's total health care. In conjunction with regular
veterinary care, chiropractic care can decrease pain and
add quality to your pet's performance, movement and
well-being. It addresses problems stemming from
imbalances in the following three systems:
1) Skeletal System: Bones and joints form a flexible
structure and are capable of pain-free movement when in
normal health and alignment.
2) Muscular System: Healthy muscles allow joints to move
freely. Healthy muscles are free of spasms, weakness, pain,
knots or degeneration.
3) Nervous System: Nerves direct the functions of the body.
When nerves are pinched by subluxation (misalignment)
reduced performance levels and pain may result. This can
eventually lead to a state of poor health.
Some Conditions That May Respond to
Chiropractic Care
• Neck, back, leg, tail or hip pain (i.e. arthritis, hip
dysplasia, disc problems)
• Difficulty chewing or TMJ problems
• Holding tail down or off to the side
• Changes in posture, hanging head down, or sitting off
to the side
• Rear end weakness, difficulty going up or down stairs
• Sensitive to touch
• Poor performance or movement problems (athletic or
working dogs)
• Shortened stride
• Injuries from slips, falls, or accidents
• After orthopedic surgery
• Changes in personality such as crabbiness, lethargy,
or just “not themselves”
• General preventive or maintenance care
How Does It Work?
Chiropractic care is extremely helpful
for animals having problems involving
the joints, muscles and nerves.
Subluxations are treated by gently
adjusting the misaligned areas into
alignment. In most cases, this restores
the proper movement, muscle and
nerve function. Adjustments are low
force and gentle, and most animals
noticeably enjoy their treatments.
Scheduling an Appointment
First-time patients will be scheduled for a 1-hour initial
consultation that includes a complete physical and
neurological exam and treatment. Please bring any health
records and x-rays to the appointment. If no recent x-rays
are available, some may be done at this time also. All initial
appointments will be rechecked in 1-2 weeks. Follow-up
treatments are scheduled for 30 minutes. Any new
conditions or problems will be scheduled for additional
time. Time between future appointments will be determined
by the animal’s response to treatment and the type and
severity of the pet’s problem.
What Does It Mean to Be
Certified?
Only veterinarians and
chiropractors that have passed an
approved AVCA animal chiropractic
program can call themselves
certified. These courses are over
250 hours in length and test
competence with comprehensive
written, oral and practical exams.
